Our Founder, Emma E. Akin, was passionate about education. She wrote a series called the "Negro American Series" to promote equal education during segregation.

The Dr. Starr exhibit features the collections of Dr. Orange Starr, a local Cherokee medicine man. One thing that makes this exhibit unique is the "Starr Brand Babies". Dr. Starr kept a collection of cards that catalogued every baby he delivered. He would then send each a birthday card!
